In Gaza, rescuers said air strikes killed at least 22 people, after the military announced it had begun “extensive ground operations” against Hamas. Fresh ceasefire talks after new Israel offensive in Gaza
Hamas has proposed a new Gaza ceasefire deal that includes the release of nine hostages in exchange for a 60-day truce and the release of Palestinian prisoners by Israel. However, Israel has not yet publicly responded to this proposal. As tensions remain high, Israel has continued its major offensive in Gaza, known as Operation Gideon’s Chariots, resulting in the deaths of approximately 300 people since Thursday, including 58 who were killed in airstrikes on Saturday. While negotiations are ongoing, there are several key points of agreement emerging, such as the release of hostages and Palestinian prisoners, and the allowance of around 400 trucks of aid into Gaza daily. However, a significant sticking point remains regarding whether the deal would include a negotiated end to the conflict or if Israel would resume its military actions as it did following the last ceasefire. As these discussions unfold, the fighting in Gaza shows no signs of abating, with reported attacks in southern Gaza, including in areas designated as safe havens for displaced Palestinians.
